Many of the opportunities I have received throughout my high school career have been from cold emailing. As someone with no connections to medicine or even science, every opportunity I have received has been from reaching out to strangers!
Cold emailing is the process of reaching out to a professional you do not know and asking for an opportunity such as research, shadowing, volunteering, or even employment.
You want to create a resume to attach to your email. However, if you don't have a resume, don't worry—just include a quick writeup of your grade and GPA, why you want the opportunity, and what you have to offer.
Writing to a stranger at first can be a little scary, but research the person you're emailing. Where did they go to school, what did they study, and what are they learning now?
Import note: Make it a quick email! Many of these professionals have busy lives and won't have time to read a five-paragraph email. Keep it concise and straight to the point, but you need to come across as well-researched in their field.

Here is an example of a cold email I sent:
Dear Dr.___________,
My name is _______________ a junior in high school.
Having always been interested in science and scientific research, I would appreciate the opportunity to aid your lab's work in CD8+ T cells that traffic to the tissues.
Having the opportunity to discuss this further with you would be appreciated.
