Fire Safety and Air Quality Tips Amid the Recent Palisades Fire Events

The recent wildfires in Los Angeles are believed to have started on January 7, 2025, affecting the Pacific Palisades community. As of today, January 11, 2025, it has burned over 38,000 acres of land, making it one of the worst wildfires in California's history, unfortunately resulting in many fatalities.

Amidst these events, many people have been displaced, losing their homes, having to find where to evacuate, and having food or water–it's just a lot. Many people have put their life savings into their homes, and having to leave without being able to pack all their meaningful items like loved ones' pictures or even graduation certificates is disheartening. When people attempt to evacuate, it's difficult for them to navigate the highways and roads when they are covered in thick black smoke, and cars jammed into a tiny space trying to get ahead. When evacuating, it's essential to protect yourself against the hazardous particles and toxic vapors in the air. It is recommended that people avoid inhaling fumes, so stay indoors if you can, away from windows and doors, use an air purifier if possible, wearing a respirator mask to help filter out those vapors.

Additionally, drinking as much water as possible is best because it allows your lungs to recover from the smoke exposure. If you see a person or pet in need or coughing, lend a hand and share your water or mask. Our hearts go out to the people of Los Angeles during this devastating time. We know that many suffer without a place to call home or clothes to wear. Sisters with a Stethoscope keeps the people of Los Angeles in our thoughts and prayers, and we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders and volunteers who are risking their lives to help those in need.
